Back in 2009 my husband bought me a game I had been hearing about for a year or so, a game I wanted more than I ever wanted any other game ever (except maybe, MAYBE.....Skyrim lol, but AT THE TIME it was the game I wanted more than any other in my life).
My husband loves me so he bought it for me (and probably instantly regretted it lmao) and I installed it on my computer and then started playing immediately.
The game:
The Sims 3
I had played The Sims for YEARS before that and loved it.
I never played Sims 2.
I booted up Sims 3 and realized very quickly that it was COMPLETELY different from the Sims (1) so I started up the tutorial family. You can pick whichever starter family you want, and I saw two roommates called Gwen and Holden.
Gwen Glover and Holden Wonzy, and the story was they were roommates but could anything happen between them?
I am generally a "non-shipper" (I don't believe if you put a (straight) male and female together in any form [work, ei "The X-files" {we see how well that worked out lol}, roomates, anything] that means they will get together. I believe human beings can be friends and not end up couples) so I went with Gwen and Holden being friends and Gwen was my main character because honestly Holden was boring. Holden was working part-time at the book store and writing in his spare time.
Gwen went into politics and was actually doing pretty well. She was bubbly and outgoing and was friends with the entire town. She went on a few dates but nothing ever really clicked with anyone.
So she got to talking with Holden one night and they had a really nice night together just talking and eventually Holden got up the courage to kiss her and they were an insta-couple.
They were my first ever Sims so everything they did was a first for me, too. First woo-hoo, first engagement, first wedding, first baby. Everything was amazing.
When Gwen was pregnant with her second child (they had two daughters, no sons) she quit her job and stayed home with the kids, while Holden supported them all with his writing.
Soon enough the girls were grown and their oldest daughter even had a baby of her own and Gwen Glover was my very first ever Sims (3) death. She passed of old age and when the Reaper came for her she was just as happy to meet him as anyone. Everyone else was heartbroken but it was okay because she had such an amazing life.
(And soon Gwen was my first ghost!)

SO
After such an amazing experience with my first Sim family Gwen and Holden became the standard for a happy Sim family for me.
I played many other families with many other stories but no family ever had the same magic as Gwen and Holden.
One day I got a new computer and re-installed the Sims and played Gwen and Holden again. I called them my Gwen & Holden clones. Their love story was just as magical but I kept it on the "epic" timeline so they would basically never age. They once again had an amazing life.
The time came in my real life where I had a dumb idea to "upgrade" (and I use that term very loosely) to Windows 10 and had to reinstall the Sims AGAIN (and hopefully for the last time but I'll never quit it is my favorite computer game ever). I thought, hey, I'll use Gwen and Holden 3 to try out some real estate things, because I've never really messed with real estate.
I gave them their starter house.
They stayed roommates for their starter house, and I didn't have them become a couple until their second house.
Gwen was very successful in her job and making some decent money so I gave her a makeover. I never did that with her before because she was just so cute the way she was.
Gwen's new look:
Once I installed
World Adventures I had Gwen start travelling. Holden was more of a homebody anyway and I think travelling abroad is more fun when you can concentrate on just one single Sim.
Gwen at Dragon Cave in Shang Simla, China
Everything was going great and Holden finally popped the question and OF COURSE Gwen said yes. She had never even dated anyone else, she had eyes only for Holden.
After a while and a few more trips overseas I noticed suddenly Holden acting kind of funny. He seemed grumpy most of the time, and Gwen couldn't cheer him up like she used to.
It culminated in one day Holden (with NO command from ME, btw) approached Gwen and accused her of cheating on him!!
I could not believe it! She never cheated on him (that I was aware of)! I didn't realize this could happen in the game!
At first Gwen was angry and let him stew in his own juices until he realized he was wrong and the only man she had ever loved (in this life and two past lives!!).
But all too quickly Gwen and Holden's relationship deteriorated to the point where he couldn't stand to be in the house with her and he moved out.
POOR GWEN!!
She was HEARTBROKEN!!
I felt SO BAD for her!!
I finally gave her a new makeover to try to make her feel better, then had her travel some more. Nothing like a new look and fresh new faces to cheer sweet Gwen up!
But it has been real hard going. She cried on shoulders of new friends and old friends alike.
There is still hope for Gwen and Holden, I guess, but it might be time for her to try to move on. She might be able to find love again, but somewhere deep in her dreams she will always remember a love so deep she can't define it, and dancing in the rain with her one true love.
R.I.P Gwen & Holden.
